Wave Hands Like Clouds

Wave Hands Like Clouds by Buedi Siebert

Very gentle Chinese melodies will wash over your mind and heart, sometimes it blends so delicately into the ether than you’re barely aware of it.”  —Raggedblade.com

Virtuoso multi-instrumentalist Buedi Siebert has composed this album to be ideal for contemplating a gentler way of life, the music a manifestation of harnessing the gentle way for a great power, which requires nothing more than simply listening.

One day the tree said to the grass, do you not wish that you were tall and powerful like I when you bend at the merest puff of wind? The grass considered what the tree had said. One day a great storm arrived and a huge gust hit the tree, cracking its trunk. As the tree lay upon the ground gasping its last breath, the grass said, I like dancing with the wind.

Wave Hands is designed as background music for folks into t’ai chi, qi gong, or other types of meditation. Very gentle Chinese melodies will wash over your mind and heart, sometimes it blends so delicately into the ether than you’re barely aware of it. The instruments, strings, flutes, etc., sound pretty authentic. My fave tracks are “Waterplay,” “Buddha Arrives,” and “Inside the Heart.”...Siebert composed and performed the music himself; it’s not going to inspire you to clean your house, but I would say for the most part he fulfills his meditative mission.

If ever a disc’s title said it all, Wave Hands Like Clouds surely does. This lovely, 12-track assemblage of gentle music supports and sustains the ideal atmosphere of receptivity and boundless flow that help transport client and practitioner alike to a place of healing. The music simultaneously relaxes and buoys, encouraging the mind to empty and the light of spirit to infuse our being. It’s great stuff.

Buedi Siebert, classically trained as a flautist, collects and plays instruments from all over the world. To the occasional flow of water and sounds of birds, the German artist adds flute, synthesizer, bells, Asian stringed instruments and a variety of space-age effects to create a most calming mix. The liner notes, or rather pastiche of quotes, explains that the joy, silence and power Siebert feels when performing a moving meditation such as t’ai chi and qigong is exactly what he experienced when recording the music.

How much of what we hear was spontaneously composed and how much of it was planned in advance is hard to tell. It’s a bit like bodywork itself. We enter a session with all the knowledge, training and wisdom we have at our disposal, and then allow intuition and spirit to guide us. It is with the same open and gentle spirit that this music touches our souls.
