Spirit of Nature

Spirit of Nature by Kenio Fuke

Spirit of Nature is like the musical equivalent of a perfect summer day. The piano is Fuke's instrument of expertise, and his style is tender and emotional with a drop of romantic wistfulness. Fuke's piano is accented by flutes and strings, which give the music a serene, classic new age music feel. The melodies are heartfelt and memorable, with a mellow, unhurried pace.”  —Music Design

I want my music to lightly and simply touch the listener’s heart, like a leaf falling gently onto soft grass. Like experiencing the quiet beauty of a sunset. I would like for my music to offer listeners an opportunity to sense the freedom within and discover their own unique paths to happiness and inner peace. — Kenio Fuke

Relaxing Melodies of Nature by Kenio Fuke

Press Acclaim

Michael Foster

This is Kenio Fuke's second album for Real Music and once again he delivers a wonderfully peaceful set of 14 songs that deliver a meditative environment to the listener that will be an island of calm in the midst of the daily rush that so many of us are caught up in as we step out of our homes each day. The second cut on the album opens with the quiet and very appropriate sounds of birds greeting us along with piano, guitar and some orchestral music mixed a little further into the background. The song is called “Secrets of Life” and seems to hit upon the idea that one of those secrets is being able to relax into your life and actually enjoy just being alive. Kenio's music reflects that fact back to each of us through the music that he has written. Many of us in the ambient/new age field have come to expect songs to be lengthy in order achieve the immersive atmospheres that we are looking for but I think that Kenio's music is able to do that in slices of life that last about 5 minutes or so.

The watchword of Kenio's music and his expectations for the listener is simplicity and he delivers that on each and every song. Today's world is already filled with too much complexity and stress so Kenio delivers something in his music that acts as a remedy to the toxicity that besets us and that remedy is music that is filled with gentle soothing sounds that create a rich, emotional landscape that allows the listener to linger without feeling any pressure to do or be something other than themselves. The piano parts are delicate and skillfully played by Kenio that seem to ooze a comforting and reassuring vibe that says it's ok to stop for a few minutes and just relax.

I love the cello that makes an appearance on the song called “Light” and as the guitar and orchestra/instruments are added in the song it weaves a tapestry that delights the listener with a unified painting of sound that portrays a harmony of purpose that we all should seek in our lives. The album itself which is called Spirit of Nature also reflects this unity of all things in its approach to life and the songs that he has chosen to include on this album. It is just as important to know what to include as it is to know what to leave out to create the atmosphere that you are aiming for and Kenio has expertly woven this album into something that communicates the message of peace that permeates each of the 14 tracks on this release.

Many of the songs will become favorites of mine as I continue to listen but I'm sure you the listener will find your own favorites for your own reasons as you put this CD into your player. Real Music has been discovering and releasing some great music over the years and continues with this release by Kenio Fuke and his album called Spirit of Nature. Definitely recommended.

On his second recording, Kenio Fuke continues to invoke nature through music, using classical and improvised sounds to create a peaceful, verdant atmosphere. Piano, keyboards and strings harmonize beautifully. Occasionally, wind instruments and a whisper of voice add to the tranquil soundscape. Listening is like stepping into the perfect day complete with gentle breezes and a colorful sunset. It is thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable.

“Secrets of Life” is tremendously enthralling, with Fuke’s composition here blending in equal amounts of atmospheric and narrative music. The presence of wildlife during this track provides a timelessness to the composition, and grants Fuke considerable momentum coming into “Dolphin Island.” “Dolphin Island” showcases Fuke’s ability to weave a cogent narrative through the tracks on Spirit of Nature, as well as to provide listeners with additional insight into his influences. I believe the strongest point of Spirit of Nature has to be Fuke’s ability to tell a story with little more than his piano. Hints of emotion, both high and low, are captured in tracks like “Paradise Calling” and “My Life.” “My Life” stands out amongst the other efforts in Spirit of Nature as Fuke spreads his wings. The track is five minutes long – a typical Fuke runtime – but the sheer breadth of the composition here is astounding. Listeners of all stripes will be able to find something to appreciate on “My Life.” The runtime of Spirit of Nature may be sixty-five minutes, but it will feel as if a few minutes have passed between the beginning of “Soul Shine” and the end of “Sea and Stars.” “Sea and Stars” exists in two distinct realms. Where the track points towards possible paths for Fuke to take with subsequent releases, I feel that the track is integral in providing additional context in which to enjoy the album. Make sure to check out the Real Music website for more information regarding Fuke, as well as their slate of releases through the end of 2012 and into 2013. Top Tracks: “Paradise Calling,” “A New Time”  Rating: 8.3 out of 10.

Spirit of Nature is Kenio Fuke’s second solo release on the Real Music label, and what a beauty it is! Combining nature sounds with his soothing original music, Fuke has created more than an hour of gentle, uplifting music designed to bring balance and harmony for the mind, body and spirit. A native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Fuke began his music studies and training as a child on harmonica, followed by guitar, piano, and other orchestral instruments. His training continued at the Dramatic and Musical Conservatory of São Paulo, where he graduated as a classical pianist, composer, and conductor. Fuke’s depth of understanding of music gives him the freedom to keep his own compositions simple while overflowing with emotion and peaceful, colorful images. The instrumentation includes piano, guitar, strings, synthesizer, and various orchestral sounds. The sound quality of Real Music releases is always amazing and this one is no exception. Spirit of Nature begins with “Soul Shine,” a dreamy little piece for piano and guitar that immediately provides a breath of fresh air. About two minutes into the piece, it becomes more orchestrated with flute and strings filling out the gentle ensemble. “Secrets of Life” begins with the sounds of birds singing behind a lovely, tranquil piano. As the piece evolves, strings and guitar bring additional depth and meaning to the quiet melody. “Dolphin Island” paints a serene picture of warm sunshine and peaceful waters with no stress to be found anywhere. “My Life” becomes a bit more introspective and ambient, with ethereal sounds behind the fluid, floating melody. “Morning Dew” is as cool and refreshing as its title implies. Graceful piano, cello, and guitar backed by pastel string washes make this one a favorite. I also really like the peaceful simplicity of “A New Time,” a trio for piano, cello, and flute with light string accompaniment. I love the changes from major to minor modes and back in “Source of Life,” another favorite. “Rising Sun” conveys warmth and the promise of a new beginning - so evocative and so lovely! “Sea and Stars” closes the album with the sound of the ocean behind piano, cello, and string washes. If all your stresses and cares haven’t at least temporarily dissolved by now, repeat as necessary! Spirit of Nature is a very impressive second effort by Kenio Fuke. Kevin Kern’s many fans will find much to enjoy in this music. It is available now from Real Music and will have its official release date on August 28, 2012. Recommended!

Fuke changes up the vibe a touch on his latest effort making this a friendlier, wider appealing piano led date that calms the nerves in a sensitive and fine style, loaded with simplicity that touches and enchants. Recorded in Brazil, maybe dealing with a sun that doesn’t have to fight its way through all the things we have to deal with in this hemisphere, really does make a difference in one’s outlook. Tasty, adult listening throughout from someone very comfortable with putting the sound and vibe first and letting everything else fall into place. Well done!
