Dreamy and exotic, Kiran Murti's Ayurveda: The Fragrance of Wellbeing takes the listener on a voyage into the east, where the lush sounds of India join with the therapeutic essence of Ayurvedic healing practices. Murti's soundscapes offer varying degrees of traditional and contemporary sonorities. "Pitta" and "Before Sunrise," for example, are infused with the hypnotic drone of the sitar, which tumbles and swirls against a backdrop of light tabla. “Krishna” features melodic chant in a style reminiscent of a ghazal. Other tracks, like “Blissful Afternoon,” take a more Western approach, blending the stark harmonies of the bansuri flute with mellow rhythms constructed from light beat, piano and uplifting synthesized atmospheres. Ultimately, the music mirrors the holistic aims of Ayurveda, and does a wonderful job of creating an environment conducive to the practice.
