Sleeping Lotus

Sleeping Lotus by Li Xiangting

Sleeping Lotus contains eleven serene guqin and xiao improvisational tracks. These tracks blossom like musical haiku, with each note capturing a world of emotion, each song bringing deep peace. The guqin and xiao, or seven-stringed zither and bamboo flute dating back more than 3,000 years to the origins of Chinese music, are said to be the perfect complement to each other, as is Sleeping Lotus the perfect complement to an interlude of relaxing, meditating, or dreaming.

Press Acclaim

Improvisations that utilize interplay between guqin and the xiao (a type of bamboo flute). The pieces are simple with a zen feel. This is an ideal recording for private meditation and finding peace within oneself.

Chris Spector

Reviver of a neglected art and instrument, this artist plays the kind of simple, background music that you hear in classy Chinese restaurants that play music like this for the rarified atmosphere it provides. A delicate work, the gentle vibe runs throughout delivering a special listening experience that is something pretty much different for Western ears. Arm chair travelers will enjoy this excursion into the real thing.
