Patrick Henry Hughes was born without eyes and is confined to a wheelchair, however this does not stop him from creating beautiful music on the piano and trumpet alike. Born with an incredible ear for music Patrick could repeat the sounds he heard on the piano after only a few tries before the age of 1, and started playing pieces on the piano by request before the age of 5. By the time he was in elementary school, Patrick was playing classical music, by high school he was into R&B. Non discriminate of the genre Patrick's love for music flourished. After being accepted to the University of Louisville, Patrick was asked to be a member of the marching band. His father, knowing Patrick's passion for playing the trumpet, works graveyard shifts so that his days are free to push Patrick's wheelchair while on the field participating in the marching band.
Without ever being able to see the keys he presses, Patrick is a local celebrity within Louisville, even playing the piano for Mohammad Ali. Patrick is incredible, and the spirit that lies behind his ability to play the piano and the trumpet is awe-inspiring. Patrick is a poster-child for the power of music; only through music did a child with the odds stacked against him break through the confines of his disability and touch the lives of those around him.
