Sketching, rewriting, arranging, recording, mixing, and mastering of Liquid Mind — I'm often asked what instruments I use to create Liquid Mind, and what my process is. The music sounds so simple, many folks assume the process is just sitting at a keyboard, calling up a sound, and holding chords. That would be nice, if that were the case! But creating the warm fuzzy texture of Liquid Mind is a bit more involved.

To compose and produce a solo album is always hard work. To begin I had exactly 40 new tunes — only thirteen of the very best made it to the album. While playing and recording I was in a state of complete concentration — really lost in another world. Sometimes the process was fraught with stress, while other times I reached a kind of “floating world” and the music came freely.

I've been thinking about trends in music lately. In 1994, when I made the decision to start distributing the slow music that had helped me to cope with debilitating anxiety, I submitted a 30 minute tape of the piece Zero Degrees Zero (subsequently released on the album Ambience Minimus) to several record labels.

Grammy Winner Omar Akram was recently interview by Christopher Caplan of RYOT News. “I think it definitely brings you closer to the source of creativity. I feel this way almost every time. I remember David Lynch was talking about it. He said it was like “searching for the big fish,” or in other words, reaching deep down. I can reach deep down inside of myself and get to the big fish — that big creative idea. That’s what it’s all about, the big creative idea, and TM helps me find this.”
