Graceful, articulate piano songs, suffused with heart and rendered with an ultra-refined touch. These intimate, poetic melodies unfold tenderly, thoughtfully…some with a light layer of strings and touch of acoustic guitar, others speaking directly, without embellishment. Pure, beautiful, emotionally rich piano in a very special debut album from Real Music.

In My Life, Real Music’s fourth release from this well-loved pianist, offers a further palette of exquisite melodies played with Kern’s graceful, accomplished touch. It also marks a departure into a new realm where Kern expands his dynamic range. Included on this album are two gorgeous arrangements of Elton John and Lennon/McCartney songs. In My Life strikes a beautiful balance of songs to comfort the heart and uplift the spirit.

As a child, Kevin would sit in a room lit only by firelight, allowing his imagination to bring the images and emotions that he then combined with his immense talent into musical expression. To this day Kevin darkens the studio lights to compose his uniquely exquisite piano music, accompanied only by imagination’s light.

A listener wrote, “No matter what kind of day I’m having, I find myself relaxing to this amazing music — gentle and yet so powerfully uplifting. Before I know it, I am smiling.” No wonder Kern’s gorgeous original music is listened to by millions of people all over the world.
“(Kern’s) sole focus is the gently rhythmic, deeply melodic, and healing music that defines the classic new age genre.” — Jonathan Widran, All Music Guide

Written while traveling the backcountry of Yosemite with a keyboard strapped to his back, solo pianist/composer Rick Erlien’s dramatic compositions capture the indelible images and grandeur of Yosemite. Performed as part of the 1990 Yosemite National Park Centennial Celebration, the album is uniquely arranged in three parts, “High Country,” “Tuolumne Meadows” and “Yosemite Valley.”
