Pianist Peter Kater has orchestrated a gentle, introspective series of ambient chamber works dedicated to the four elements: Earth, Water, Fire, and Air. Each CD is distinctive, with Water living up to its title by being the most free-flowing of them all.
At their essence, Liquid Mind recordings are slo-mo electronic symphonies created for frantic souls who yearn to take a mental float trip across their own private Sea of Tranquility. Credit these restful, unhurried soundscapes to Chuck Wild, once the keyboardist for Missing Persons, the inventive, short-lived 1980s new wave act that also included future instrumental auteurs Patrick O’Hearn (bass) and Terry Bozzio (drums).
German pianist Bernward Koch, whose latest release is Walking Through Clouds, calls his compositions "songs without lyrics" — and indeed, they are delicately crafted and clearly show their creator's sense of form.
Music in the Liquid Mind series changes little from one recording to the next — good news for contented fans of the long-running bliss-out series created by keyboardist/composer Chuck Wild. The former Missing Persons keyboardist and studio colleague of famed producer Ken Scott (David Bowie, Supertramp) has evolved into a premier space-music specialist whose relaxing, gentle soundscapes artfully evoke the softer side of the cosmos.
