Hypnosis

Hypnosis by Thierry David
I first heard about French synthesist Thierry David around 1993 when another electronic musician, Robert Rich, played some of David’s music for me. It turned out, David had been recording electronic music for several years already, but he was about to make a musical shift from the earlier music he’d released on his own own K-Vox label in Europe.

Garden of Delight

It’s a journey into eastern exotica on Garden of Delight, the latest album from Paul Avgerinos. Avgerinos is a veteran musician and multi-instrumentalist who was trained at the Peabody Conservatory and worked as an orchestral bassist. That was before he heard Wendy Carlos’s Switched-On Bach and decided to plug in.

Stellar Connection

It takes a lot of discipline for a skilled, classically trained keyboardist to put his technique on hold and instead, give in to the mood and atmosphere the music requires. On his latest album, Stellar Connection, any one of Thierry David’s musical lines would be simple to the point of boredom on its own. But when interlocked with other lines and cast over gently pulsing rhythms and undulating textures, the result is as vast as the imagery that guides this album.

"Best of 2012 ... So Far"

"Not surprisingly, many of the selections were Echoes CDs of the Month including the number one and two picks,  Thierry David's expansive electronic spacescape, Stellar Connections and Marconi Union’s  ambient noir masterpiece,  Different Colors.  Honestly, either one of these albums could be number one by year’s end."

"The veteran French synthesis creates an electronic soundscape for an intergalactic journey that is brimming with melody and mood."
